Buying HDTV: Sony KDF-55E2000 v\s Toshiba 50HP66?

I am ready to buy my first HDTV. After much deliberation and asking and research, I realized something that fit my budget ~2000 and my preferred size (>50) was the Sony KDF-55E2000.
I went to Video Only to buy that today and that dude asked me to check out the Toshiba plasma TV. Obviously the plasma TV looks cool compared to the Sony but i am not sure to buy it since I cannot find any official ratings at cnet & whenever I look at the top plasma TVs, I see Panasonic or Pioneer in the top of the list.

So I know i am not comparing apples to oranges when I talk about a Sony LCD rear projection to a Toshiba plasma. However, given the fact that i get get tht Sony one for ~ 1850 & the Toshiba one for 2500, what do you think I should do.

I am really confused….

I like the sony picture better.

Yes, I know that the brightness on the plasma is better on the sides, but the sony is more forgiving with a standard signal, and is a bigger screen for less money.

Unless you are planning to mount the tv or have lots of seating on the sides, I wouldn’t consider the plasma.

In short, I have been reading HDTV magazines for more than a year, and I have seen the growth in technology of both plasma n LCDs as well as plenty of professional reviews on many HDTVs. Therefore I wish to remind u that never trust what a saleman recommend as they usually recommends those Tvs with high comission for them to u. And don’t just look on the specification of the HDTV, many brands boast their specification just to attrach consumers. From "What Video" u can see a Samsung 10,000:1 contrast ratio plasma TV loses out to a Panasonic Veria plasma TV(3000:1) when they test their specification after calibration. Serously speaking, look for the brand name than the specification. Plasma n LCDs have their very own cons n pros, it’s up to individual to decide which is better or suits them more[look into my profiles best answers to know more about the cons n pros, I only answer TV section questions].

U are right. Panasonic and Pioneer are the only ones that make good plasma TVs, they are always in the top league of the "plasma war" since last year June. If u wish to see some of the professional reviews, here’s the link for it http://www.homecinemachoice.com/whatvideo/ not all reviews are posted there, u will need to buy the magazine if u wish to see more. =)

Personally I don’t suggest the Sony KDF-55E2000 or Toshiba 50HP66 for u. Sony Bravia S series or V seres are simply amazing, it’s definitely one of the best LCD brand out there. But if u are out of the budget for that, Samsung R74BD is definitely your choice, it’s the cheapest yet a decent quality LCD tv among other brands. However, I’m not sure whether it has 50" size. Never buy a Toshiba plasma! Toshiba LCD tvs are consider very good, but definitely not their plasma. I have just read a review of Toshiba WLT66 LCD series a week ago. From the group test, it wins a Sony S series Bravia when comparing in performance, it’s really shocking as Sony Bravia really seems to be unbeatable in the LCD league. However, the Toshiba WLT66 series looks terrible urgly when displaying a SD signal. Probably because its native resolution of 1920×1080; too much down scaling is need to be done. Lastly, just take note that never buy other brands of plasma tv beside Pioneer, Panasonic and Hitachi. And never buy other brands of LCDs beside Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba. If possible, only get the newest models from the brand that u are buying. Good luck! =)
